Williamson Medical center receives a five star rating from Medicare

Williamson Medical center in Franklin has received a five star rating from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.

Williamson Medical Center is the only hospital in Tennessee with a five star rating.

As of January 2019 there were less than 300 hospitals in the country that received a five star rating, representing about 6% of all the hospitals rated by CMS.

The purpose of the hospital star rating system is to help patients determine which hospitals will provide the best care for them.

“This ranking is such a testament to the dedication of our physicians and staff to ensuring we deliver safe, high-quality patient care,” Chief Medical Officer Andy Russell said, according to a press release.

That quality rating is based on dozens of measures, such as a hospital’s ability to handle electronic health care records and patient health outcomes.The rating is also based on patient surveys about their experience at the hospital.

According to those surveys, the vast majority of patients gave Williamson Medical Center an overall quality rating of 9 or 10 on a scale from 0 to 10.

About 85% of patients would definitely recommend getting care at the Williamson Medical Center. That’s 13% higher than the average hospital in Tennessee.

The quality data showed that Williamson Medical Center’s emergency department, which sees between 20,000 and 40,000 people each year, is slightly slower than other departments. On average, patients spend 151 minutes at the ER before they leave, while the state average is 143 minutes.

However, the emergency department was also faster than average when it came to admitting ER patients to the hospital when necessary.

Last month, CMS announced that it would overhaul this hospital rating systems starting in 2021. The agency plans to update the ratings with the current methodology in 2020.

When CMS proposed changing the formula used to calculate ratings earlier this year many hospital systems criticized the star rating in public comments as an oversimplification of hospital quality.
