Tractor Supply has added a longtime Darden Resturants executive to its board as another director prepares to step down from his post.
Ricardo “Rick” Cardenas has been with Darden, the parent company of Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse among others, pretty much continuously since 1984, when he started as an hourly employee. (He briefly worked at two consulting firms in 1998.)
He has been the company’s CFO since March 2016, a role that also has him overseeing IT, strategy, consumer insights and business analytics. Prior to being CFO, he was chief strategy officer.
“Rick brings to our Board a deep knowledge of financial matters and a breadth of experience and expertise in finance, accounting, strategy and data analytics,” Tractor Supply’s board chair Cynthia Jamison said. “His exceptional background will provide us with valuable, independent insights as Tractor Supply continues to grow and drive long-term profitability.”
The addition of Cardenas grows the Tractor Supply board to 10 members but that is a temporary arrangement: Former Clorox Co. General Counsel Rick Bewley, who has been a director since 2011, has hit the company’s director retirement age of 72 and will not stand for re-election this spring.
Cardenas is the second director named to Tractor Supply’s board in the past year. Last spring, AMN Healthcare Services Chief Legal Officer Denise Jackson was elected to fill the seat vacated by longtime director and former AutoZone CEO John Adams.
