Franklin kids coding center will be first location in state at grand opening October 13

The first Code Ninjas location in Tennessee is set to open its doors in Franklin at its grand opening event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 13.

Owned and operated by August and Jeff James of Arrington, the center will use an engaging, game-based curriculum to teach essential programming skills to children ages 7 to 14.

Inspired by their 10-year-old son’s passion for learning how to code and frustrated by the lack of ongoing educational coding options for kids in the area, the James family decided to take a leap of faith and open a Code Ninjas franchise location of their own.

“We wanted Evan to be able to connect with kids who shared his interests all while learning more about a topic that could provide a pathway for a future career that he loves,” Jeff said. “Our goal is to provide kids interested in coding and STEM subjects with a built-in community that encourages them and accepts them for being themselves.”

During each session at the ‘dojo,’ the student ‘ninjas’ will work their way from white belt to black, starting with the basics and moving at their own pace through different platforms. Teens from Franklin-area coding and robotics clubs, known as ‘senseis,’ will be leading the ninjas through their game-building sessions.

“One of our favorite things about Code Ninjas is that, while our ninjas think they’re just having fun learning and creating, they’re also building life skills that will be invaluable to them,” August said. “This process helps to grow confidence, expand critical thinking skills, learn how to work in a team and so much more.”

Code Ninjas has no set class times, offering parents the flexibility to drop their children off at any point during dojo hours for their session of game-building.

In addition to coding courses, summer and holiday camps will be offered, along with after-school programs, parent’s night out events,  badge and achievement meetings for girl and boy scouts, and opportunities for homeschooling groups during the day.

Code Ninjas Franklin is located at 1113 Murfreesboro Rd. and will be open from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Enrollment for classes is now open, and those interested in learning more can schedule a tour of the center.
