Corizon renews health care contract in Kentucky; new executive will run state operations

The prison healthcare company Corizon recently renewed a contract to provide medical care for prisoners in Lexington and Fayette County in Kentucky. Corizon provides healthcare to prison systems across the U.S.

The Brentwood company has also hired a corrections executive to run the company’s operations serving state departments of corrections.

Corizon has been providing health care to the Community Corrections Center in Lexington and Fayette County for more than 25 years. The facility is one of the company’s oldest clients. The renewed contract starts in August and continues for three years.

The prison has about 1,500 inmates. According to a press release, Corizon operates a Suboxone treatment program to address opioid addiction at the prison.

Michael Murphy joined Corizon in August to run all aspects of Corizon’s operations in state departments of corrections. That includes prisons in Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Wyoming and Tennessee.

Before coming to Corizon, Murphy worked for more than 20 years with Management and Training Corp.

Management and Training Corp offers training and education programs for young people and prisoners. The company also operates prisons and provides medical and dental care to prisons.

At Management and Training Corp Murphy was a regional manager for federal correctional facilities and medical operations. He was also responsible for site development and oversight of government and customer relations.
