A Brentwood company is building a high-tech home that will be featured in in a home decor and design magazine later this year.

Castle Homes, a custom home builder based in Brentwood, is building the souped-up home in Belle Meade.

House Beautiful Magazine will feature the house in its November issue to demonstrate how builders can use design to encourage health and environmental sustainability.

This is the second year that the magazine has created a house to showcase new concepts in design. It calls the project a whole home concept house.

Last year the publication featured a house in Atlanta. The new house will be located at 725 Westview Avenue in Nashville.

House Beautiful Associate Publisher Sean Sullivan said the project is supposed to show home buyers and home builders how the newest concepts in design can improve health and well being.

“It’s a design house — a design showcase — but everything in it is connected with the thread of sustainability, peace of mind, physical well being and health,” he said.

As an example, Carisha Swanson, the director of the whole home concept house for House Beautiful, said the kitchen is designed to make vegetables easily visible so people are more likely to eat them.

Swanson said House Beautiful interviewed a group of experts in organization and design to produce a series of reports about best practices in home design. Those reports informed the design of the showcase house.

Castle Homes will be building the house. The company collaborated with Franklin architect Kevin Coffey to design it. Matthew Quinn of Design Galleria Kitchen and Bath Studio in Atlanta will design the kitchen and bathroom.

The English arts-and-crafts-style home will be almost 6,000 square feet and sits on a three-quarter acre lot. From October 18 to November 3 the home will be open to the public for tours.

“When we do show homes what we find is that primarily it’s consumers. You can actually step into a home that’s in the magazine,” Sullivan said. “We’re doing the timing so you’ll be able to get your magazine and then be able to walk through and meet the designers.”

During the tours there will also be cooking and design demonstrations, and the home eventually will be sold.
