Brentwood has a new pizza restaurant called Basil Garden.

The restaurant is located off of Franklin Road where the restaurant Wild Iris used to be. Basil Garden serves New York style pizza—sold whole or by the slice—pastas and sub sandwiches.

This is owner Jamol Bakhtiev’s first restaurant, but he has worked in the industry since 2012.

“I used to work in restaurants … All I did was restaurants and cooking pizzas,” he said. “I decided to open my own now.”

Bakhtiev came to the U.S. from Uzbekistan in 2012. He said he’s following the same path as his grandfather did. His grandfather migrated from China to the Soviet Union and then quickly opened a restaurant.

The pizzeria had a soft opening earlier this month, but Bakhtiev is planning a grand opening for December after he hires more staff.

In March, the Wild Iris closed permanently. Decades earlier, the storefront was also the location of a favorite pizza restaurant called Red Geranium.

Bakhtiev brought in all new equipment for the kitchen. The restaurant makes marinara and Alfredo sauces on site.

In addition to serving lunch and dinner at the restaurant, he hopes to have delivery and catering as well.
