Brentwood-based AAC Holdings has promoted Mark Calarco from national medical director role to CEO of its laboratory division.
The position was formerly held by five-year company veteran Jeff Johnson.
Calarco has been with the parent of American Addiction Centers for about six years, serving as the lab’s national medical director of clinical diagnostics and the company’s general national medical director prior to that. He has more than 30 years of experience in both clinical and laboratory medicine, and has been credited for the development and inception of AAC’s addiction labs.
In his role, he will be responsible for lab operations and development and diagnostic treatment practices for addiction and psychiatric disorders, according to a press release.
“The way we treat addiction and behavioral disorders is being transformed,” Calarco said in a release. “Advances in diagnostic testing and genomics are leading to a more effective, personalized approach to patient care. I want Addiction Labs to lead the industry in this. In 2019, all of our brilliant laboratory scientists will charge fiercely ahead to make this happen.”
Calarco is board-certified in family and regenerative medicine and has advanced certification in addiction medicine. He also is currently serving his second term on the Tennessee State Medical Laboratory Board, a position appointed by the governor.
